Wynwood was an abandoned warehouse district just north of downtown Miami until 2009, when developer Tony Goldman convinced an international roster of street artists to start painting the buildings as a "museum of the streets" experiment. Fifteen years later, the Wynwood Walls is the world's most respected outdoor street art collection — a permanent rotating gallery space featuring works by Shepard Fairey, Os Gemeos, Kenny Scharf, Lady Pink, Retna, and dozens of others.
Ticketed entry gets you into the main walled compound (about 80,000 sq ft of curated mural space) plus the indoor gallery and the Wynwood Garden. New walls cycle in every year or two; the curators specifically commission new pieces rather than letting murals stay forever, so repeat visits genuinely show new work.
The surrounding neighborhood is part of the experience. Most of Wynwood's exterior walls are painted (sometimes illegally, sometimes commissioned), and many of the best pieces are free to view on the streets outside the ticketed area. Plan 90 minutes minimum, longer if you want to do the surrounding gallery walk. Nearby coffee shops (Panther Coffee), restaurants (Beaker & Gray, Coyo Taco), and bars (Wynwood Brewing, Concrete Beach) make this an easy afternoon-into-evening hangout.
What to Expect
Format
Self-guided through the walled outdoor compound plus indoor gallery. Surrounding Wynwood neighborhood (mostly free to wander) extends the experience significantly.
Best Time
Late afternoon for best photography light and to flow into Wynwood's evening food/drink scene. Avoid midday in summer — minimal shade in the outdoor section.
Duration
90 minutes inside the Walls + 1-2 hours wandering Wynwood streets.
Tips
Wear comfortable shoes — concrete and uneven sidewalks. Bring water. Cash for street vendors. The block-long mural by Os Gemeos is the most photographed piece. Stop into Panther Coffee for the local Miami coffee scene.

Do I need a ticket to see Wynwood street art?
Only for the Wynwood Walls curated compound. The surrounding neighborhood streets are free to walk and feature hundreds of murals — many of the best pieces are outside the ticketed area.
Can I take photos?
Yes, personal photography is encouraged throughout. Commercial shoots, weddings, or large-format photography require a separate permit from the Walls administration.
Is Wynwood safe to walk at night?
Wynwood is generally safe and lively into the evening. Main streets (NW 2nd Ave, NW 24th-26th Streets) are well-lit and busy. Like any neighborhood, less foot-traffic side streets warrant standard caution after midnight.
How do I get to Wynwood?
Rideshare from anywhere in Miami runs $10-20. Free trolley loops through the district. No good Metrorail access. Parking is scarce on weekends — rideshare strongly recommended.
When do the murals change?
The Walls compound commissions new murals annually around Art Basel (December). Surrounding neighborhood pieces are constantly changing — different on every visit.
