The Mayfair sits in the middle of Coconut Grove's restaurant and shopping district — walking distance to CocoWalk (the open-air mall, recently redeveloped with restaurants and a movie theater), the marina, the Barnacle Historic State Park, and the Grove's tree-canopied residential streets. The 1980s Mediterranean-revival building (a notable example of the style for Miami) was recently renovated; rooms have a clean modern aesthetic against the original Spanish-tile architecture.

Coconut Grove itself is Miami's oldest continuously-inhabited neighborhood, settled by Bahamian sponge divers and Miami's first European settlers in the 1870s. It's leafy, walkable, full of independent restaurants (try GreenStreet Cafe, Lulu, Glass & Vine, Ariete) and boutiques, with a sailing-and-marina character that feels nothing like South Beach or Brickell. The Vizcaya Museum and Gardens is a 10-minute drive north.

The hotel's rooftop pool has views of Biscayne Bay and the downtown Miami skyline. The on-site restaurant is decent; the better choice is walking 5 minutes to one of the Grove's independent options. Rooms typically $300-450 in season, $200-350 summer. Best for travelers who want a real neighborhood feel and walkable streets instead of a tourist strip — especially appealing for return Miami visitors or anyone exhausted by South Beach.
